My illustration for Deccan Herald. My last one. After three years of this, I'd like to move on. This picture was done for a very good poem written by a young student, so I think it is a good way to end.
I forgot to comment on your post about children's books. I love them a lot too and really like the work of Olga and Andrej Dugin. I think they illustrated a book for Madonna. (weird) Do you know the cat and dog books by Peter McCarty? Fabian and Hondo, I think. They have a similar delicacy and I know you like cats!
Priya, I just read the essay "The Original Sin" by Francine Prose, on your Seaweed Soup blog...I wish everyone would read it! Excellent essay! Strong words that need to be spoken. That's what it takes: speaking out and not going along with all that crap...But too many women not only go along with it, but perpetuate it - How else would the condition of women be what it is for millenia (don't even get me going on beauty pagents and breast implants!). May things finally change (I'm not too optimistic, but who knows?) (And Bravo, Jimmy Carter :) - I always did like him).
Hi Jill, I'm so glad to know that there are people who read my Seaweed Soup blog and have an opinion about the links there. I think it is so important to think and to question rather than mindlessly accept beliefs that have been handed down to us. Things are changing elsewhere (if not here i think), I just finished watching a programme on BBC where a law was passed in Norway that companies have at least 40% women on their boards or face severe penalties. After the initial resentment and shock, the surveys eventually showed that the results were surprisingly positive - not just for the companies, but men on the boards took more interest in their work. :-)
I had no idea you illustrated for the Deccan Herald (I just googled it)- you're a woman of so many talents, Priya! And the tiger reminds me of Wm Blake's immortal poem "The Tyger"-
